Hurricane IKE Update: 10/27/08
The City of Freeport escaped major damage during Hurricane Ike.
In the Main Street area, our landmark fountain downtown was toppled by high winds and is currently being repaired. The nearby arbor also collapsed. Awnings and banners were destroyed. Some windows were broken and several roofs sustained major damage. Many people lost wooden fences, trees and other landscape features. But so far, no deaths have been reported.
We were VERY lucky here in Freeport. Thank you to all who helped out and wished us well during this time.
